Maria Montessori Charter Academy Review

Maria Montessori Charter Academy opened in 2000 to provide students in kindergarten through eighth with an alternative to traditional schools that offers a broader curriculum. The school utilizes the Montessori Method with a focus on traditional standards based subjects like reading, spelling, language, and math, but includes more subjects such as practical life, zoology art, and geography.

At this time the school does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or other programs, but offers a variety of subjects and courses that involve students in a variety of activities including outdoor adventures.

Most parents love the Montessori Method and are happy that their children are learning in a safe and nurturing environment. A few parents have not been introduced to this method of learning and are not as fond of the curriculum or the multiage grouping. Students on the other hand, are really enjoying attending school and learning so much as they explained.

The Academic Performance Index stayed at their base level, which is 850. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly above state averages but there were a few below average including 48% of 3rd graders passed the math exam with the state average at 69% and 54% of 5th graders passed the math exam with the state at 65%, as examples.

The school is providing a quality education in a safe and caring close-knit environment. If you have any concerns regarding the learning environment, it would be in your best interest to take a tour and talk with other parents before enrolling your child.
