Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts Review

Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts opened in 2006 for grades Kindergarten through fifth. The school has a strong curriculum heavily based on the arts and project inspired learning.

Among the core subjects students also have the opportunity to participate in computer arts, chorus, dance, ceramics/sculpture, drawing/painting, theater/drama, Spanish, basketball, gymnastics, physical education classes, yoga, academic contests, student council, newspaper, community service, radio/video/multimedia, and science & technology.

Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts has given its students a love for the arts that other schools just cannot match as stated by parents. The teaching is hands on and both parents and students are happy with this type of learning environment. Most students like their teachers.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decrease in academic growth from 849 to 846. The statewide goal is a score of 800 making parents very happy.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

In some grade levels the test scores for Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts were below the state average. For example, 61% of 2nd graders passed their Math exam with the state average was 64%. For the 5th grade Math exam, 66% passed up against the state at 65%.

Los Feliz Charter School for the Arts has impressive numbers, dedicated teachers and a love for the arts. The school is providing a quality education; however, it would still be a good idea to visit the school to ensure the learning environment is a good fit for your family.
