Long Valley Charter School Review

Long Valley Charter School opened for students in kindergarten through 12th grades while providing a unique learning environment with a curriculum that focuses on basic skills while blending in technology, arts, and community resources. The school offers small class sizes and devoted teachers in a safe learning environment.

At this time, Long Valley Charter School does not offer any extra curricular, sports, or other programs for students to join.

Parents expressed that the school was excellent, but that over the last few years the test results of students have declined. Parents stated they are a bit concerned about the quality of the education their students are receiving since the change. Students said they are still happy with their teachers in most cases, but would like to see more activities including sports.

The Academic Performance Index showed a sharp decline in academic growth from 732 to 676. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams at Long Valley Charter School were below state averages, however, the previous year most were above state average or at least very close to average. An example of the drop in percentages is 40% of 4th graders passed the math exam while the year previous it was 63% that passed.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the English Language Arts exam was 63% with the state average at 83% and in math 60% with the state average at 84%.

With the test results dropping by such a huge percentage across the board, it would be a good idea to talk with teachers and other parents to ensure the school is the best for your child to succeed before enrolling.
