Linscott Charter School Review

Linscott Charter School opened in 1994 as an alternative to traditional schools was parents are involved in all aspects of the operation of the school. The school offers multi age classes with project oriented thematic teaching approach. Linscott Charter school is a school run by parents with all parents encouraged to spend a half day a week in their child’s classroom as a classroom aide. The school serves students in kindergarten through 8th grades.

Along with core subjects, Linscott Charter School offers extra curricular activities including drama, drawing, ceramics, chorus, and computer arts. Sports offered include volleyball, physical education classes, softball, basketball, and soccer. Other programs available are science & technology, yearbook, and community service.

Parents are thrilled with the school and love the idea that they are part of the school. Parents stated that it is a great feeling when you are helping not only your child but also the community as a whole to provide their children with an excellent education. Students really enjoy the extra activities such as robotics and cooking along with other activities.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 885 to 858. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed. Examples include 55% of 2nd graders passed the math exam with the state at 64% and 70% of 5th graders passed the English Language Arts exam with the state average at 63%.

Overall, the school is providing a quality education with parent involvement as one of the major features. For those that have concerns regarding enrolling their child, should visit the school for a tour.
