Liberty Elementary opened in Petaluma to provide an alternative to traditional schools in 2010. The charter school serves students in kindergarten through 6th grade with a challenging curriculum based on state standards. Liberty Elementary offers devoted teachers and a safe and nurturing learning environment.
Along with core subjects, students can participate in extra curricular activities like theater or band. The school does not offer any sports at this time but does offer yearbook and academic contests.
Most parents are not as pleased with the school as other parents. Some stated the school puts way too much focus on test scores than on if the students are really learning subjects that will help them succeed. The teachers on the other hand are very caring and the staff gives attention as well to all students. Students expressed they would like to see more activities and sports.
The Academic Performance Index showed a slight decline in academic performance from 909 to 906. The statewide goal is 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams at Liberty Elementary was all above state averages across all grades and all subjects.
With the exam scores and the comments from parents, the school is doing an exceptional job of providing students with a quality education. To ensure the school is a good fit for your family, it would be a good idea to take a tour of the school and talk with teachers before enrollment.
