Learning Community Charter School – Hearthstone Review

Learning Community Charter School – Hearthstone opened in 1997 for students in Kindergarten through 12th grades. The school focuses on a personalized learning experience with daily focused instruction in the community and also at home. This school offers more than the traditional classroom experience.

Students are offered more than core subjects. There are small classrooms with enrichment classes that the students can choose what they would like to participate in. Spanish and work experience courses are also available. The school does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

What parents love about Learning Community Charter School – Hearthstone is the dedication of the teachers and the unique approach to learning. Students love that they get to learn in a new way and say they are never bored.

The Academic Performance Index showed a slight decrease in academic growth from 718 to 712. The California statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results that were available from the students at Learning Community Charter School – Hearthstone showed scores below what the state averages showcased.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. 90% passed the English exam with the state at 83% and in Math 80% with the state average at 84%.

Even though the comments from both parents and students were positive it would be a good idea to learn more about the curriculum before enrolling your child. If you want your child to be involved in sports, then you should learn if the school plans to offer these in the future.
