Leadership Public Schools – East San Jose Review

Leadership Public Schools – East San Jose opened in 2004 for grades 9th through 12th. The curriculum is based upon college prep with an objective of high expectations, leadership, strong parent and community involvement and the best results.

Students learn core subjects along with opportunities to participate in computer arts, video/film production, theater/drama, Spanish, soccer, basketball, martial arts/self defense, softball, student council/government, community service, and yearbook.

The student reviews of Leadership Public Schools – East San Jose show that they love attending the school. They have been able to cultivate relationships and prepare for college and beyond with the best support system. Parents are very pleased with the progress at the school.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decrease in academic growth from 695 to 661. The statewide goal is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The students at Leadership Public Schools – East San Jose showed improvement in some areas while falling below the state averages in others. For example on the grade 10 Algebra I exam 13% of students passed which tied the state average.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. The test results showed percentages below the state averages in both subjects.

The school is doing a fair job preparing students for the future. If you have any concerns, it would be a good idea to talk with other parents that have students enrolled.
