La Sierra High School Review

La Sierra High School opened in 2003 for students in grades 8th through 12th. The school helps to prepare students for a college education. The rigorous curriculum teaches more than just coursework and gives students the confidence to succeed. This military academy teaches discipline combined with a learning environment.

Along with core subjects students can choose to participate in computer arts, video/film production, dance, Spanish, community service, audio/video/multimedia and vocational programs in food service, production, management and construction/building trades. Athletics include football, rock climbing, martial arts/self defense, softball and physical education classes.

The parents commented that La Sierra High School is providing their kids with a good education and they are pretty happy with the teachers. They teach the basics and respect which is what kids today need. As a military school, the kids are motivated to succeed and become productive members of society.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 629 to 644. The California statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The test results for students at La Sierra High School showed both highs and lows. For example 13% of 11th graders passed the US History exam with the state average at 48%. 76% of 8th graders passed the English Language Arts exam with the state at 59%.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. 55% passed the English exam. The state average was 83%. 65% passed the Math exam with the state average at 84%.

If you would like your child to be exposed to a military education of respect mixed with a rigorous curriculum then schedule a tour with La Sierra High School.
