KIPP King Collegiate High School Review

KIPP King Collegiate High School opened in 2007 for students in grades 9th through 12th. The school believes that extending the day as well as the year will help students succeed academically. Students will be prepared for college or for joining the workforce with the lessons learned in the learning environment at this school.

Along with core subject classes, students can choose from a variety of extracurricular activities for those that wish to participate. Those include video/film production, mandarin, tagalong, Spanish, soccer, basketball, physical education classes, student council and government.

The parents of KIPP King Collegiate High School love how unique and creative the teachers are, how excited their children are about reading and how committed the entire staff is to each and every student. As for student reviews they love the small class sizes, the focus of the teachers and the lesson plans that show more than just that a traditional text book shows. On the other hand, a few students mentioned they would like to see more sports offered.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 820 to 832. The California statewide goal is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The test results showed scores that were both above and below the state averages across all grades and subjects. For example only 3% of 11th grade students passed their Algebra II exam with the state average at 15%.

California uses the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) to test high school students’ skills in English language arts and mathematics. The students at KIPP King Collegiate High School passed the Math exam at 92%. The state average was 84%. On the English exam 93% passed with the state at 83%.

The teachers at KIPP King Collegiate High School do a great job at motivating each student and help him or her reach their goals. If you have any concerns, it would be a good idea to talk with other parents.
