Kingman Academy of Learning – High School Review

Kingman Academy of Learning opened their charter high school in Kingman in 2001. The school has an average enrollment of 4505 students in 9th through 12th grades. The school focuses on language arts, reading, science, and math. Along with core subjects the school offers other programs students can join including drama, painting, photography, sculpture, chorus, basketball, cheerleading, baseball, cross country, golf, football, physical education classes, soccer, track, softball, volleyball, newspaper, debate, yearbook, student council, and science & technology. There are also vocational program opportunities for those that are interested in technology and health careers.

Graduates of the school expressed that the school prepared them for their college years and teachers were always friendly and helpful. Parents expressed the curriculum is challenging and that teachers and staff work with students on an individual basis when needed to ensure all achieve their goals as well as prepare them for life whether they plan on going to college or joining the workforce. There were no negative comments on this school.

When you look at the AIMS test scores, you may be surprised that no one had any problems with the curriculum or the number of students graduating. In Arizona, students must pass this exam in 10th grade in order to receive their high school diploma. In reading, 78% passed with is the same as the state average and 69% passed writing which was above the average by 1%, however, only 33% passed the science exam and only 51% passed the math exam which were both below state average.

It would be best if you learn more about the school and the curriculum before you enroll your child. It seems the school is lacking the proper educational tools for students to master math and science. Of course, they may be other reasons some students did not pass the exam. Talking with teachers and other parents may give you a better idea.
