King/Chavez Academy of Excellence Review

King/Chavez Academy of Excellence opened in 2000 for students in grades Kindergarten through eighth The school provides a core curriculum based with a focus on strong discipline to better prepare students for high school and beyond in their careers.

Core subjects are the basis of education here, but that is not where the learning stops. Students can choose courses in computer arts, dance, ceramics/sculpture, theater/drama, Italian, Spanish, soccer, P.E., student council/government, community service and yearbook. There is also a vocational program in food service, production and management.

The reviews of King/Chavez Academy of Excellence are divided. On one side parents love everything about the school, the teachers work well with parents and their high discipline eliminates problems quickly. On the other side parents see the school as overcrowded with teachers that are not qualified. Students expressed they like the school and teachers, but are very unhappy that the school does not offer any sports.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase in academic growth from 705 to 765. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

Students at King/ Chavez Academy of Excellence showed results above and below the state average. The 3rd grade English Language Arts exam showed a score of 20% with the state at 48%. On their Math exam they exceeded the average with a score of 85% with the state was set at 69%.

The school is providing the students with the educational tools needed to succeed. To ensure the school is the right fit for your child, you should take a tour.
