King Chavez – Arts Academy Review

King Chavez – Arts Academy opened in 2005 for students in grades 3rd through 5th with an alternative to traditional schools. The goal at King Chavez is to strive for excellence in academics, the arts and athletics. The curriculum is rigorous and demanding but yields fantastic results.

As stated above the core subjects are very important, but also the arts classes in dance, chorus, film production/video, computer arts, drawing/painting and theater/drama. The athletics program consists of football, lacrosse, soccer, cheerleading, martial arts/self defense, softball, gymnastics, P.E. and yoga. Students can also participate in Spanish, newspaper, community service and yearbook.

According to parents the teachers at King Chavez – Arts Academy are the best in the word. The parents love how dedicated they are and how the testing scores has increased every year. Every year just keeps getting better and better as reported by parents. Students stated they love the curriculum, the teachers, and the school.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decrease in academic growth from 774 to 773. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

Each grade at King Chavez – Arts Academy showed a score that exceeded the state average and one that fell below the state average. All and all the averages have improved each year.

The school is providing students with the necessary tools to reach their goals in a safe and nurturing environment. If you have any concerns, it would be a good idea to speak with other parents before enrolling your child.
