Kid Street Learning Center Charter School Review

Kid Street Learning Center Charter School opened in Santa Rosa in 1999 to serve students in kindergarten through 6th grades. The school offers small class sizes with around 57 students enrolled per year. The school serves students that are at risk and centers on building self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-expression via the theatre arts.

Along with core subjects, Kid Street Learning Center Charter School offers a few other activities students can enjoy if they wish to participate in which are drama, dance, painting, and ceramics. Sports offered are physical education classes, martial arts, and soccer. Other programs include community service, student council, and science & technology.

Comments from parents were nothing but positive stating that the staff and teachers were excellent. They make the students as well as parents feel welcome. Teachers encourage students to do their best and provide a very nurturing learning environment. Students stated the teachers are very nice but they would like to see more sports offered.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 728 to 660. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Kid Street Learning Center Charter School was not available.

With such a huge drop in the academic performance index and the fact that the percentage of students passing the California Standards Tests was not available, it would be a good idea to talk with administration regarding the test scores. Previous years the students were above average and the index was close to the statewide goal.
