Keiller Leadership Academy opened in 2005 to provide students in 5th through 8th grades with the opportunity to attend a safe and nurturing school that offered a college prep curriculum. The vision of the charter school was made possible by parents and the community that wanted to improve the educational opportunities of the students in the district.

At this time, Keiller Leadership Academy does not offer extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs. The school does offer after school tutoring for students that might need the extra help. Keiller Leadership Academy focuses on core subjects as well as preparing students for their high school years.

The comments from parents are very divided. Most parents state the school is doing an excellent job preparing students for high school. Other parents expressed that the school is more focuses on behavior than academics, while some prefer the strict codes that help create a safe learning environment. Students are very happy with the teachers, staff, and curriculum. The only downside is that some students would like to see sports or clubs offered.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 748 to 720. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams was below state average except for 8th science with 75% passing the exam with the average at 66%.

With the academic performance index dropping, it would be a good idea to learn if any changes have occurred at the school that would warrant the drop in exam scores. You should also talk with parents to ensure the learning environment is a good fit for your child before enrolling.
