James Jordan Charter Middle School Review


James Jordan Charter Middle School opened in 2005 to offer families an alternative to traditional schools for students in 6th through 8th grades. The school offers a standards based college prep curriculum with honors track, direct instruction, teacher run, and project based lesson plans. The student body is diverse with 73% Hispanic or Latino, 11% White, 9% African American, 2% Asian, 2% Pacific Islander, 1% Filipino, and 1% unspecified.

Along with core subjects, James Jordan Charter Middle School offers extra curricular activities including painting, drama, drawing, and computer arts. Sports available include basketball, football, soccer, physical education classes, and flag football. Other programs include game club, arts & crafts, community service, yearbook, and student council.

All parents expressed nothing but positive remarks regarding James Jordan Charter Middle School staff, teachers, curriculum, and after school programs. Parents are very impressed with the tutoring available and the respect students are shown. Students stated that bullying in a problem and they really like going to school.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 746 to 765. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at James Jordan Charter Middle School was both above and below average according to the grade level and the subjects. Examples include 8th grade general math 55% with the state at 32% and 7th English Language Arts at 53% with the state at 62%.

James Jordan Charter Middle School is a good school offering families with a wonderful alternative to traditional schools that is providing students with the educational tools to succeed. It would still be a good idea to take a tour of the school to ensure it will be a good fit for your family.
