Imagine Elementary at Avondale Review

Imagine Elementary at Avondale is a charter school that opened in 2008. The school provides an alternative education for students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. The school also offers computer arts, drama, and physical education classes along with core subjects. The school has two student clubs which are student government and yearbook.

Reviews on this school are distances apart, so I would suggest that you check into the school more before enrolling your child. A few parents express “favoritism” among teachers and administration along with a huge problem with bullying even in the younger classes. These parents explained that when trying to speak with teachers or staff regarding the bullying, they were ignored and phone calls were not returned. Other parents are very happy with the school, expressing their children want to go to school and enjoy learning. The bonding of 5th graders and their 1st grade reading partners are one of the things most parents enjoying seeing.

When you look at the percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of tests, it does seem that something is just not right at the school. In reading, students were below the state average by 10%, in writing they were 50% below the average, and in math 7% below the average. Fourth graders did not do any better with 12% below the state average passing in reading, 6% below in science, 2% below in writing, and almost 20% below in math. The same scenario is seen in 5th grade with only 49% passing the exam in reading with the state average at 79%, in writing 7% below the average, and in math 43% below the average. The percentages of students that passed the exam in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades was not available.

With percentages like these and the negative comments, it would be best to check out the school thoroughly before enrolling your child.
