Grove School Review

Grove School opened in 1999 in Redlands for students in 7th through 12th grades. The school offers a Montessori Method of teaching that allows students to reach their full potential while fostering natural motivation via a hands-on learning environment. The uniqueness of the school is seen with not only a brick and mortar school but also the utilization of The Farm, which provides students with a solid work ethic while the high school prepares students for their college years or for joining the work force.

Along with core subjects, Grove School provides students with other programs, sports, and extra curricular activities. These include drama, painting, sculpture, dance, photography, film production, basketball, softball, yoga, volleyball, tennis, physical education classes, fencing, baseball, cross country, soccer, bicycling, badminton, rock climbing, ultimate Frisbee, community service, debate, multimedia, yearbook, and student council.

Parents are very pleased with The Farm as well as the high school stating that the curriculum is excellent, that students are learning more than just, what is found in books, and that teachers and staff are highly dedicated. Students love the school and state they are encouraged to be creative, which helps them enjoy attending school.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 839 to 847. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Grove School were mainly above state averages with a few exceptions such as 8th grade science with the percentage at 62% and the state 66% and Algebra I with 24% and the state percentage 49%.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. In English Language Arts 100% passed the exam with the state average at 83% and in math 91% passed the exam with the average at 84%.

Since the school offers the Montessori Method of learning, it would be a good idea to take a tour of the school prior to enrolling your child to ensure the environment is a good fit for your family.
