Great Valley Academy opened in 2008 for students in kindergarten through 5th grades. The school provides a unique learning environment with extended hours, integrated visual learning as well as Spanish instruction for all students.
With the core subjects at the forefront Great Valley Academy sees every child’s potential and works to strengthen it. The school has an after school program from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm with both fine and large motor activities available. Extra curricular activities available include drawing, dance, chorus, computer arts, orchestra, and band. Students can also join sports if desired which include volleyball, track, soccer, softball, physical education classes, field hockey, basketball, and baseball. Special programs including students clubs are community service, academic contests, science & technology, and yearbook.
The comments from parents are mixed with some stating the last couple of years that teacher turn over are very high. Some teachers are well respected while others are not favorites of parents or students. Students do enjoy attending the school and the various other activities available.
The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 720 to 790. The statewide goal is 800.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The testing data for the CST is not available at this time.
The percentage of students passing the exam was mixed from above average to below average. Examples include 39% of 3rd graders passed the English Language Arts exam with the state average at 48% and 40% of 7th graders passed the math exam with the average at 52%.
