Gorman Learning Center Review

Gorman Learning Center opened in 2000 for students in kindergarten through 12th grades. This school is quite unique as it is an alternative to traditional learning. This program uses distance learning and the internet to implement its curriculum. Flexibility, independence and success is what this school strives for to ensure that all students receiving a quality education.

Online learning can produce great productivity if done correctly. Gorman focuses on core subjects as well as a variety of other programs to stimulate your child. There’s an academic decathlon with trips to LA, art show, band, field trips and a writing program. Activities also include yearbook, football, gymnastics and Spanish.

Parents are very pleased with this school. Its unique approach creates quite a family bond. As for thoughts on teachers that is where the reviews are mixed. Some parents love the staff and found them to be quite helpful while others found the staff to be distracted and not dedicated to their children. Students enjoy the school but would like to see a few more sports added.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 694 to 712. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The results showed that in each grade the passing percentage was lower than the state average. 11th graders received a 23% on the US History exam, with state average at 48%. In 7th grade, 28% passed the Math exam with an average of 52%. In 2nd grade, Math exam results were at 45% and the state was at 64%.

The California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) is used to test high school students’ in 10th grade about their skills in English language arts and mathematics. These results showed a 79% passing rate in English with the state at 83% and 68% in Math with the average at 84%.

Overall, the school is providing the educational tools needed to help students succeed. Gorman Learning Center has great teachers that would love to take you on a tour. See if Gorman is a perfect fit for you and your child’s education.
