Gompers Preparatory Academy Review

Gompers Preparatory Academy opened in 2005 for students in 9th and 10th grade. This school is based on standards with a rigorous curriculum. They also focus on college prep work as well as developing each student’s social and emotional skills.

Along with the core classes, Gompers gives its students other options on how to spend their time at the school. There is a rich athletic program including the following sports: baseball and basketball for boys, volleyball for girls and soccer, track and tennis for both. Clubs offered include chess, key and recycling. There is even a Glee class.

The parent and student reviews for this school are mixed. While the parents are not fans of the students being in mixed aged classes and the teachers, say the same thing. There are always new teachers as well with demands that were set too high. Parents were not impressed with the test scores. The student reviews were great saying how much they loved the school.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase from 654 to 673. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test scores are an area where improvement is needed. In 9th grade, 36% passed the Biology/Life Science exam with the state average set at 60%. In 10th grade, it was only 17% of students that passed the same type of exam with the state average being 43%.

Gompers Preparatory Academy is a school with a high demand and loved by students. As a parent, schedule a tour or talk with the teachers. This will give you great insight into seeing if Gompers Preparatory Academy is a perfect fit for you and your child.
