Golden Oak Montessori School of Hayward Review

Golden Oak Montessori School of Hayward opened in 2009 and follows a Montessori curriculum under the teachings and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. This school serves students in grades 1st through 8th. Here the learning is achieved through mixed aged classrooms with a focus on holistic education providing each student with a hands-on, unique experience.

Besides having mixed age classrooms Golden Oak provides classrooms with cluster areas rather than rows of desks. This provides learning that is more engaging as students and teachers sit on the floor together. Technology is a huge part of the learning process as well as art, music, plants, books and animals to stimulate all five senses.

There are plenty of classes offered ranging from a variety of languages, newspaper, debate, band, video/film production, and sports from badminton to rock climbing to fencing. More traditional sports like basketball, golf and cheerleading are also offered.

The teachers are what make Golden Oak Montessori School of Hayward such a wonderful school as explained by parents. Their hands on approach is well received by the parents. The students have a well-rounded learning experience and are challenged daily by students both younger and older. Students stated they really like the school.

The Academic Performance Index showed a slight decrease from 830 to 826. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

In 6th grade, the CST results were mixed. 64% of students passed the English/Language Arts exam with the state average at 59% while only 43% passed the Math exam with the state average at 55%. For the 7th grade students the results were also mixed with 75% passing the English Language Arts exam and the state at 62% and 33% passing Math with the average at 52%.

Golden Oak Montessori School of Hayward takes a different approach to learning and is pleasing parents along the way. To ensure the learning environment is one in which your child will excel, take a tour before enrolling.
