Gateway High School Review

Gateway High School offers a rigorous curriculum that focuses on college preparatory education that goes above and beyond what can be offered. The high school is open to grades 9-12. Here students can get the necessary education while also focusing on performing and visual arts as well as instruction in technology.

The academic program offered has all of the core classes with a workload that does exceed the admission requirements of universities all across the country. Other than core classes students are offered a variety of clubs ranging from cheer to gaming club to gay straight alliance to prom and yearbook just to name a few. Sports are also a part of the Gateway way of life. Soccer, basketball and volleyball are offered. There are even internships and employment opportunities for students and their chosen career field.

This charter school has parents pleasantly pleased. It has been stated that parents love that it is a small school with big potential for preparing students for college. The teachers are a big reason why this school is well liked. The staff focuses on the students and makes the learning process fun. Students stated they really enjoy going to school.

The Academic Performance Index showed improvement from 737 to 763. The statewide goal is 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students at Gateway High School that passed the exams was mixed. Examples include 27% of 9th graders passed the Algebra I exam with the state average at 25% and 74% of 10th graders passed the Science exam with the state average at 53%.

The California Exit Exam is given to 10th graders to test their skills in English language arts and mathematics. In English Language Arts, 94% of students passed the exam with the state average at 83% and in math 92% passed with the state average at 84%.

This school is doing a great job getting students ready for life before college from choosing a field to choosing a school. Being prepared is job 1 and they excel in that area. To learn more about this school and if it is the one for you and your child a tour and talk with some of the teachers can easily be arranged.
