Fuente Nueva Charter School Review

Fuente Nueva Charter School opened in 2005 to provide a unique learning environment with a Spanish immersion program that focuses on academic excellence, social responsibility, the arts, and community. The school works with the whole child serving students in kindergarten through 6th grade. The immersion program offered by the school follows the 5 C’s of the National Foreign Language standards, which include communication, culture, comparison, connections, and community. The student body is diverse being 57% White, 16% Hispanic or Latino, 15% unspecified, 4% African American, 3% American Indian, 3% Filipino, and 1% Asian.

Along with core subjects, the school offers dance, drama, painting, physical education classes, martial arts, soccer, yoga, community service, and science & technology.

The majority of parents love the immersion program as well as the science and art programs. The environment is one in which students can progress through a variety of subjects naturally while receiving the encouragement and help they need from teachers. Students stated they really like the school and love going to school.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 848 to 838. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Fuente Nueva Charter School were mainly above average, however, not all results were available at the time of this writing.

The school is providing a very unique immersion program for families that wish their students to attend a school with this style of program. It is a good idea to take a tour to ensure this is the style of learning you desire for your child before enrolling.
