Freedom Academy Review

Freedom Academy opened their charter school in 2002 in Scottsdale for students in kindergarten through 9th grades. The school provides a quality education where students can achieve their goals in a small close knit learning environment. Along with providing the basic core subjects, the school also offers a few other activities that students can join including computer arts, band, dance, chorus, drawing, drama, and sports such as football, cheerleading, basketball, and physical education classes.

Reviews by parents are mainly positive with most parents expressing their appreciation of the principal, teachers, and of the school as a whole. The school treats all students equally including those with disabilities and the bullies. Each child is treated not only equally, but is given the attention they need to succeed. Parents were very pleased that all teachers work hard to learn more about each student in the school even those that are not in their class. Parents stated that their children love school and have all kinds of wonderful things to say after school about their day and what they are learning in school. The school works with each child on an individualized basis and will create a curriculum that works for each child.

The percentage of students that passed or exceeded the AIMS series of test was above average in most classes. Percentage of 3rd graders above the state average was 11% in reading, 7% in writing, and 23% in math.

4th graders did exceptional well with percentages of students passing or exceeding the exam well above the averages across the state in reading, science, writing, and math. Writing percentages was at 95% which is extremely well.

5th graders also showed great percentages with 90% in reading, writing, and math with the state averages for reading at 79%, writing at 55%, and math at 63%.

6th grade percentages were also above the state averages with percentages like 95% in reading, 75% in writing, and 80% in math all around 20% above the averages of other schools in Arizona.

7th graders were not way above the state averages but still scored above the averages with percentages of 86% in reading with the state at 82%, 67% in writing with the state at 53%, and in math 67% with the state at 61%.

8th graders all were above state averages as well in reading, science, and math. The only percentages that were close to the state average was in writing with 88% with the state at 86%.
