Fairmont Charter School Review

Fairmont Charter School opened as a charter school in 2007 providing families in Vacaville and the surrounding area with an alternative to traditional schools. The school provides a safe nurturing environment for students in kindergarten through 6th grades. The population of the student body is diverse with 37% Hispanic or Latino, 29% white, 8% African American, 2% Filipino, 2% Pacific Islander, 1% Asian, 1% American Indian, and 20% unspecified.

Along with core subjects, Fairmont Charter School provides extra curricular activities and other programs including band and academic contests.

The majority of parents stated they are happy with the facilities offered, but are not as thrilled with the teachers and staff. Most parents expressed that the teachers are not willing to help students that need any extra attention. Students like some of the teachers but not most. Students also expressed that the school needs to offer more programs such as sports. A few parents did state their children are doing better academically after being enrolled in the school.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 735 to 748. The goal statewide is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Fairmont Charter School was all below average except for 6th grade English Language Arts with 62% of students passing the exam with the state average at 59%.

Even with the comments from parents and students, the school is performing better and is providing a better education than previous years. If you have any concerns about enrolling your child, you should visit the school and talk with parents that have students enrolled.
