Excel Education Centers – Flagstaff Review


Excel Education Centers opened their charter school Flagstaff campus in Flagstaff for students in 6th through 12th grades in 1998. The school offers a variety of personal curriculum options that help students succeed and graduate from high school while being prepared to further their education or to join the workforce.

The school offers multiage classrooms, service learning, on site special education, computer based science, computer based math, and project based English. The school has a multimedia computer center, internet access, library, counseling services, renaissance program, recreational activities, community fund raisers, campus awareness project for Excel, crisis invention, and student clubs such as yearbook committee and student government.

Students at Excel Education Centers at the Flagstaff campus participated in the AIMS series of test which is required in the state for students in specific grades that attend public schools including public charter schools. Percentages of students that passed or exceeded the exam are listed below. There were no percentages available for 8th graders.

In reading, 54% of 10th graders met the standards with the state average at 48% and 5% exceeded the standards with the state at 14%; in writing 55% met the standards with the state at 59%, and in math 11% with the state at 22%.

The students also participated in the Stanford Achievement Test the schools percentile ranks are below along with state averages.

In reading, 7th graders ranked at 36% with the state at 55%, in language 25% with the state at 58%, and in math 25% with the state at 60%.

In reading, 8th graders ranked at 33% with the state average at 56%, in language 30% with the state at 52%, and in math 25% with the state at 59%.

In reading, 9th graders ranked 19% with the state at 43%, in language 15% with the state at 42%, and in math 29% with the state at 62%.
