Dunham Charter Review

Dunham Charter opened in 2010 to provide students in kindergarten through 5th grades with an alternative to traditional schools. The school offers small class sizes and an abundance of educational opportunities that goes beyond extra curricular activities.

The various programs offered to students include physical education classes, music program, science Olympiad, S.T.R.A.W., school garden, week long science adventures in Yosemite, Walker Creek outdoor education, Angel Island Civil War simulation, and after school programs. The after school programs include piano lessons via the “Move Over Mozart” program, TGW golf, Spanish Instruction through “Colors of Spanish” program, drama, chess, and various sports.

Most parents are very excited about the opportunities that Dunham Charter School is providing their children. The curriculum is very challenging and is providing their children with the knowledge needed for the remainder of their education years. Parents and students alike expressed they like the teachers and all the programs the school offers.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 803 to 844.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Dunham Charter was mixed with the majority above average. Examples include 68% of 4th graders passed the English Language Arts exam with the state average at 67%, 72% of 2nd graders passed the math exam with the state average at 64%, and 70% of 5th graders passed the science exam with the state average at 60%.

With the percentage of students that passed the exams and the comments of parents and students, the school is providing an exceptional education for students. The best way to learn if the learning environment will fit your family is to take a tour of the school.
