Dixon Montessori Charter School Review

Dixon Montessori Charter School opened in 2005 to provide families with an alternative to traditional school settings. The school offers a curriculum based on the Montessori method with multi-age classrooms for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The class size is small with an average of 285 students enrolled per year.

Along with core subjects, Dixon Montessori Charter School provides extra curricular activities such as dance, band, drawing, and computer arts. Sports offered include track, field hockey, basketball, baseball, physical education classes, and soccer. The school also offers special programs and student clubs like science & technology, yearbook, newspaper, student council, and community service.

The majority of parents expressed they love the Montessori method where students can work on projects with a classmate or on individuals, projects receive the help the need. Teachers are very caring and devoted to providing a quality education and to help students grow academically as well as emotionally and socially. Students stated they really enjoy going to school and love their teachers.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 836 to 809.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Dixon Montessori Charter School was mixed according to grade level and subjects. Examples include 7th grade English Language Arts 69% with the state average at 62% and 5th grade science 38% with the state average at 60%.

Even though the academic performance index showed a small decline in growth, the school is providing a good education that works with the whole child. To ensure the Montessori Method is the best for your child, you should visit the school before enrolling.
