Desert View Academy Review

Desert View Academy is a public charter school that opened in Yuma in 1999. The school provides a quality education for students in kindergarten through 6th grades that centers on teaching in ways that help students discover.

Along with basic subjects, Desert View Academy offers extra curricular activities and clubs including computer arts, band, drawing, community service, academic contests, student council, newspaper, yearbook, and science & technology. The only sports offered at this time are physical education classes.

The overall review of parents is that the administration and staff are not up to par. Parents are often treated as inferior and with disrespect. Some parents went so far as to state that teachers were not in control of students and often yelled at other students. On the other hand, all parents agreed the curriculum and education their children are receiving is the best in the area. Most believe that improvement is needed when it comes to school staff. Overall parents are very happy with the school itself, the teachers, and the curriculum and the achievements their children are making at Desert View Academy.

Students at Desert View Academy participated in the AIMS exams which measures if students are mastering core subjects. Percentages of students that passed or exceeded the exam as well as averages across the state are listed below.

In reading, 86% of 3rd graders passed or exceeded the exam with the state average at 76%, in writing 91% with the state at 79%, and in math 75% with the state at 68%.
