Del Vista Math and Science Academy Review

Del Vista Math and Science Academy opened in 2011 to provide students in a kindergarten through 5th grades with an alternative to traditional school curriculums that focuses on math and science. The population of the student body is diverse with 75% Hispanic, 11% Filipino, 9% White, 1% Asian, and 1% Black. Teachers work with students on an individual basis to ensure the success of each student.

At this time, the school does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

The comments are parents are on both sides of the fence, some really like the school and the teachers, stating that the teachers are helping students succeed. On the other side, some parents expressed they have not seen any improvement in their child’s grades or interest in going to school. Students stated that the teachers are very nice and helpful but they would like to see sports and student clubs offered.

The Academic Performance Index showed a small decline in academic growth from 722 to 720.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Del Vista Math and Science Academy was below average across all grade levels and all subjects.

With the test scores and the academic performance index showing a decline it would be in your best interest to learn more about the curriculum and how students are performing before enrolling your child. Talking with teachers and other parents with students attending the school will give you a better idea.
