Cottonwood Creek Charter School

Cottonwood Creek Charter School opened in 2010 for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The school provides a variety of educational programs to help students excel including full time independent study and part time independent study to name a few. With this type of educational program, families can choose to home school their children or to allow them to attend the site based classes for a traditional style learning experience. The main goal of Cottonwood Creek Charter School is to provide a personalized learning plan for each student that caters to their own unique learning style.

The classes held at the facility are during the mornings, four days per week while in the afternoon students are allowed to choose electives such as art, music, foreign language, and technology. Friday are used for students to enjoy going on field trips to provide a hands on learning experience. Some of the field trips have included community service at a local food bank, a Shasta Dam Tour, Gaumer’s Rock and Gem Museum, and Shasta Caverns.

Along with the core subjects, the other electives the school offers include graphic arts, fiddle, guitar, piano, technology, Spanish, kindermusik, art, photography, yearbook, The Great Outdoors, sewing, quilting, and running club.

Parents are pleased with the choices they have with education options for their children. The curriculum whether at home or at the facility is very challenging and encourages students to do their best. Parents expressed that the teachers are very helpful and work with students on a one on one basis. Students stated they like the morning classes, the elective classes, and the field trips. Some students said they really like the teachers at the school while others are happy they can learn while at home.

The Academic Performance Index showed the school had academic growth from 810 to 839. The California Standards Tests showed that the percentage of students passing the exams across all grades were above state average.

With the percentage of students passing the exams and the academic growth seen at the school, Cottonwood Creek Charter School is providing a quality education. It would still be in your best interest to learn more about the curriculum as well as the at home schooling requirements before enrolling your child.
