Cornerstone Charter School Review

Cornerstone Charter School opened in 2000 to serve students in 9th through 12th grades with an alternative to public school. The school on average has 200 students enrolled per year. Cornerstone Charter School provides a very unique approach to the learning environment to help students that might behind on credits or prefers a more concentrated focus on the requirements of graduation.

The school offers two shifts for attending the school which are one morning shift from 7:45am to 12:50pm and an afternoon shift from 9:29am to 2:34pm. The curriculum is based on the American Education Corporation software. Every student is given a computer workstation in every classroom so he or she can learn at their own pace. There are no sports available at the school.

Students and parents agree that this is a wonderful school providing a learning environment that helps each student reach their goals and receive the one on one attention they need. The school prides itself on helping each individual student with all situations whether a social issue, academic one, or even issues at home. The teachers are pleasant, friendly, and caring which ensures every student can accomplish graduation. Students can work at their own pace with teachers assistance when needed.

In the state of Arizona in order to graduate from high school, all 10th graders attending a public school including charter school are required to pass the AIMS exam. The percentage of students at Cornerstone Charter School that met or exceeded the standards of the exam along with the percentages of students across the state are listed below.

In reading, 50% of 10th graders passed or exceeded the exam with the state average at 78%, in science 16% with the state at 42%, writing 38% with the state at 68%, and in math 29% with the state at 60%.
