Copper Canyon Academy Review

Copper Canyon Academy opened their charter school in 1995 in Peoria to provide a quality education as well as an alternative to public school for students in kindergarten through 12th grades. The school provides start up programs as well as works with students that are at risk along with their families. The school offers social services and holistic education to both children and families to help create productive members of society.

Along with the core subjects, Copper Canyon Academy offers extra curricular activities and clubs which include theater, painting, ceramics, dance, chorus, film production, computer arts, band, debate, community service, academic contests, multimedia, newspaper, student government, yearbook, and science & technology. Sports available at the school are volleyball, physical education classes, baseball, track, softball, cheerleading, basketball, soccer, football, and cross country.

Parents express that Copper Canyon Academy offers small class size in a friendly and nurturing learning environment. The teachers provide the extra attention to each child individually to ensure their success. Teachers correspond with the parents often regarding their student’s progress or other issues that may occur.

Students are very happy with the teachers and the curriculum in which they are excelling. All students expressed how the teachers were very helpful and caring often spending extra time to help a student when the need was necessary.

A few parents were concerned over the lack of discipline in the higher grades and the lunch program needs some upgrading.
