Cinnabar Charter Review

Cinnabar Charter is a charter school in Petaluma that opened in 2011 for students in kindergarten through 6th grades. On average, the school serves 170 students per year. The school was first opened in 1859 to serve children that lived on farms in the rural area north of Petaluma. Today, the school serves a diverse student boy with 8 teachers along with part time employees including a nurse, speech therapist and a psychologist. The school strives to ensure that students are prepared for the remainder of their educational years as well as become life long learners.

At this time, Cinnabar Charter School does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

Parents love the family atmosphere and small class size the school offers. Many parents expressed that the school is an extension of the community with teachers, staff, administration, parents, and the community all working together to provide students with the best possible education. Students really love the school and the teachers. The school is very small and students know one another personally as well as teachers and staff by name.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 781 to 838. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams ranged from below average to above average according to the grade level and the course. Examples include 2nd grade English Language Arts 69% with the state average at 58%, 3rd grade math 38% with the average at 69%, and 6th grade English Language Arts 68% with the average at 59%.

Overall, Cinnabar Charter School is providing a close knit learning environment where students can achieve success and meet their goals while making friends and becoming life long learners. If you have your concerns, you should talk with teachers and other parents that have children attending the school.
