CHIME Charter Middle School Review

CHIME Charter Middle School opened in 2003 for students in 6th through 8th grades. The school offers a constructivist thematic approach to education as well as one that allows students to learn in their own style.

The unique curriculum offers thematic and project based learning in a safe and nurturing environment.

Along with core subjects, CHIME Charter Middle School provides extra curricular activities including band, drama, and chorus. Sports offered include physical education classes, swimming, softball, football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and volleyball. Other programs are newspaper, academic contests, yearbook, student’s council, community service, and science & technology.

Parents expressed that the teachers, staff, and school are doing an excellent job providing their children with an exceptional education and nurturing environment. Some parents stated the tutoring is very helpful and encouraging. Communication between teachers and staff is always great. Student stated they love going to school, the teachers are great, and they are making new friends. Most students said the curriculum is hard but they are learning more than ever.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 788 to 781. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams were above state averages in most instances except for math subjects where percentages were below average such as 8th grade general math at 8% and Algebra I at 21%.

The school is doing a good job providing an education, but if you are considering enrolling your child, it would be a good idea to ask questions regarding the low math percentages.
