Chico Country Day School Review

Chico Country Day School opened as a charter school in 1996 for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The school has small class sizes and a close knit community that works together to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment. The curriculum focuses on math, science, and the arts. Parental involvement is encouraged. The classroom offers an interactive environment with an integrated thematic instruction model.

Along with core subjects the school offers extra curricular activities including drama, film production, orchestra, dance, drawing, computer arts, sculpture, chorus, and band. Sports offered include badminton, football, soccer, basketball, physical education classes, tennis, and volleyball. Other programs include debate, academic contests, science & technology, multimedia, newspaper, student council, and yearbook.

Parents love the structured and safe environment. Most parents stated the teachers are amazing, the curriculum is challenging and they are very pleased with the way in which their children are progressing. Students stated they like the school and teachers, but a few students complained that the school has too many rules and is too strict. A few parents expressed the emphasis on building character and citizenship is outstanding.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 868 to 873. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students that passed the exams were above state averages in the majority cases, the only grades and courses that were below average were math in both 2nd and 8th.

Overall, the school is doing a very good job of providing students with the tools needed to achieve success. If you have any concerns, you should take a tour of the school to ensure the environment is a good fit for your family.
