Charter Home School Academy opened in Visalia to provide home schoolers the opportunity to receive a quality education with support from qualified teachers. The school serves students in kindergarten through 8th grades with an online school that also provides all the tools necessary to receive a good education. In order to be a part of Charter Home School Academy, you must attend weekly meetings as well as go to the school for testing and tutoring if needed. The school provides all the curriculum material along with art materials, science equipment, and a school library.

When it comes to social development the school offers elective classes such as computer lab, conversational Spanish, writing, math and science labs, arts & crafts, speech club, gardening, sign language, along with student activity days, field trips, and family potlucks.

Parents expressed the school is doing excellent in providing families with all the tools they need to home school their children effectively. They even stated they love all the activities that allow their children to make friends and they can meet other parents. Students love the school, stated the teachers are wonderful, and all the fun activities make learning at home a great experience.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 764 to 773. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. In most cases, the results of the exams were not available. The ones that were showed the percentage of students that passed the exams were below state averages.

One must remember with an online school, that parents must be involved in their children’s education. Students must work independently in order to achieve success. Before enrolling your child, you should ensure you can devote between 4 and 5 hours per day for your child’s education.
