Center for Academic Success – Douglas 9-12 Campus Review

The Center for Academic Success opened the Douglas Campus for students in 9th through 12th grades. The school serves a rural community with the main focus on providing an education with the goal of employment in the technological field. The student body is 99% Hispanic. The school opened in order to provide an alternative to the public school where students can receive a better quality and more specific education than what was found in public schools in the area.

The school provides a nurturing and caring learning environment where all students can accomplish their goals to becoming productive members of society. The curriculum offers core subjects which include history, science, mathematics, and English. Along with the core subjects the school emphases personal responsibility, accountability, and characteristics needed to become productive citizens.

Center for Academic Success Douglas 9-12 Campus provides tutoring as well as skill specific classes to ensure that each student can reach their full potential.

All reviews of the school from parents and students are positive. The community is pleased with the accomplishments the school has made with the students. The only negative statement is that the school does not offer any type of extra curricular activities or sports. It is focused only on academics.

As required by the state of Arizona, 10th grade students participated in the AIMS exam, which measures the students mastering skills of core subjects. The percentages of students that passed or exceeded the exam along with the average percentages of students across the state are listed below.

In reading, 63% of students at Center for Academic Success Douglas Campus passed or exceeded the exam with the state average at 78%, in science 26% with the state at 42%, in writing 56% with the state at 68%, and in math 59% with the state at 60%.
