BRIDGES Charter Review

BRIDGES Charter is a public charter that opened in Thousand Oaks in 2010. The school is providing the need for an alternative to traditional school settings with small class size, dual grade classes, and multi age activities for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The school offers a close-knit family learning environment that works with the whole child to ensure success on all levels.

Along with core subjects, Bridges Charter provides extra curricular activities, which include physical education classes, band, drama, dance, painting, and chorus. The school does not offer any sports or other program such as student clubs.

Parents are thrilled with Bridges Charter and have seen a huge improvement in their children not only academically but even the way they treat each other. Parents expressed that the teachers and staff treat each child with respect and create a fun learning environment that ensure the students success. The unique way in which they approach the different subjects is awesome providing hands on projects and field trips that correspond with the lessons are amazing. Students really enjoy going to school and state that the teachers are great.

The Academic Performance Index declined by 1 point from 843 to 842. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students that passed the exams were mainly average or above average. The few classes that were below state averages were 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 8th grade math. All other courses were mainly above state averages.

The school is providing a great education even with the lower math scores, which were only a few percentages below state averages. It would still be a good idea to visit the school and talk with parents to make sure the school is a good fit for your child.
