Big Picture High School – Fresno Review

Big Picture High School opened the Fresno campus in 2009 and has on average an enrollment of 146 students per year. The school strives to provide students with the best possible education while staying on top of the latest changes in education as well as technology. The school offers a challenging curriculum in a caring learning environment.

The school states that it has five learning goals, which include Empirical Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Communication, Social Reasoning, and Personal Qualities. The school also boasts a 95% graduation rate.

Parents are very pleased with the school and staff. Parents did express their concern that the school is not improving academically as much as they would like to see and that test scores are quite a bit below the state average. Students expressed that teachers are caring and they are learning the basics. However, most stated they would like to see sports, extra curricular activities, and clubs offered.

Even though the school boasts a high graduation rate, reports show the school has a 33.3% graduation rate.

The Academic Performance Index for Big Picture High School in Fresno decreased instead of showing growth. The base score was 593 and this year the score was 527, which shows that fewer students passed the exams than the previous year.

The California Standards Tests were not very good even though they are better than the previous year with all grades being quite a bit lower than state averages in all courses. The California High School Exit Exam had 64% of 10th graders passing English Language Arts and 75% passing math.

The school is not showing any improvement, but parents and students alike have faith in the teachers and the school. It would be a good idea to take a tour of the school and talk with other parents before enrolling your child. The school even though the tests scores are low, may still be a good fit for your child and may be better than traditional school settings.
