Aspire Rosa Parks Academy Review

Aspire Rosa Parks Academy is a charter school in the Aspire Public Schools network giving the community an alternative to traditional education for students in kindergarten through 5th grades. The school offers a curriculum that is based on individuality to ensure that each student can learn in a way that fits their needs and their own unique style. Aspire Public Schools is among the top performing schools in the nation that serves low-income families. On average, the school has an enrollment of 350 students per year, which allows for small class sizes.

All Aspire Schools center on the importance of education by instilling the desire for a college education in the early years. The school is a safe and nurturing environment with caring and dedicated teachers and staff.

The Aspire Rosa Parks Academy offers a variety of learning plans that are seen at all Aspire Schools which include explicit instruction, apprenticeship, inquire, project based instruction, distributed practice, massed practice, and problem solving. Along with core subjects, the school offers chorus, painting, newspaper, community service, academic contests, and science & technology.

The majority of parents are very happy with the success of the school. However, a few are concerned with the new administration and hope that the close-knit family environment remains in tact. The school is one of the best in the area with teachers that truly care about their students. The curriculum is challenging but students are enjoying learning and feeling important in their school.

The school did show growth as reported by the Academic Performance Index, however, the California Standards Tests results have about half to the grades in various course below state averages and the other half being above average. The percentages were very up and down according to the grade level and the subject matter. Such as one grade did very well in math but were below average in English Language Arts.

As with any decision you are making with your child’s education, it is a good idea to talk with parents that have students enrolled in the school before enrolling your child.
