Aspire Huntington Park Charter School Review

Aspire Huntington Park Charter School opened in 2008 to provide students in kindergarten through 5th grades with an alternative to traditional schools. The school offers individualized lesson plans that ensure that each student can learn in their own style and in the manner that serves them best. Aspire Huntington Park Charter School is part of the Aspire Public Schools. The network of schools is found nationwide and is among the top performing schools in the United States serving low-income families.

Students that attend one of the schools in the network are given the opportunity not often seen in public school to ensure they receive the education necessary to go forward to college. One of the acclaimed programs utilized by Aspire Public Schools is the College for Certain education. At this time, the program has 12,000 students in schools across America with the majority of the student body being Latino and Black and most often considered at risk of not completing high school.

The Aspire Huntington Park Charter School uses the same teaching methods found at all Aspire Schools including distributed practice, massed practice, inquire, project based instruction, explicit instruction, apprenticeship, and problem solving.

The majority of parents agree that teachers are very supportive and caring. The school is providing the necessary tools to ensure that students are receiving a quality personal education that will help them succeed. Many expressed just how much better their children are doing now that they are attending Aspire Huntington Park Charter. The staff is very nice and caring as well an even knows students by their names. The only problem is the lack of extra curricular activities.

The percentage of students that passed the California Standards Tests were above average in most cases. Fifth grade was a below average in science. Overall, the school had academic growth as noted by the Academic Performance Index.

The school is giving students the educational means they need to succeed and reach their goals for their future educational years as well as becoming life long learners.
