Animo Oscar De La Hoya Charter High School Review

Animo Oscar De La Hoya Charter High School opened in 2003 with the help of Oscar De La Hoya, Steve Barr, and Green Dot Schools. Oscar De La Hoya, the 7 seven-time world boxing champion wanted to provide a high quality school for students in the area and the vision came true with this high school. The college prep curriculum with small class size is providing students with the encouragement and educational tools needed to enter college upon graduating high school.

Along with core subjects the school offers a few extra curricular activities, which include painting, dance, band, photography, video production, physical education classes, cheerleading, basketball, softball, soccer, volleyball, yearbook, student council, and science & technology. After school programs include fashion design, tutoring, boxing, gaming, weight lifting, guitar, driver’s education, Latin dance, anime, and credit recovery. The vocational program available is technology.

Teachers at Animo Oscar De La Hoya are very dedicated to providing students with the help them need to succeed. Students and parents alike praise the teachers and staff stating that they listen and care about each student. Parents like the small class size and express their students are doing very well at the school and are becoming more responsible even at home. The only downside mentioned by a few students is the lack of other languages besides Spanish and the students need more school spirit.

The results of the California Standards Tests showed that the scores were very mixed with some grade levels being average or a bit below average in some courses, while in other grade levels and courses students scored above average. It would still be in your best interest to take a tour of the school to learn more about the curriculum and ensure the school is a good fit for your family before enrolling your child.
