Adalberto M. Guerrero School Review

Adalberto M. Guerrero School opened in 1999 and provides an education for students in 6th through 8th grades in Tucson as a public charter school. The staff as well as teachers provides a quality education that meets the standards set by the state of Arizona using a multicultural system to ensure all students can succeed in their chosen career.

As for extracurricular activities, Adalberto M. Guerrero School only offers the mariachi program, which offers a beginning, intermediate, and advanced mariachi and choir. The program allows students to perform ensembles at restaurants, activities, and different school functions.

Parents are pleased with the quality of the educational programs however, teacher involvement is lacking as well as other extracurricular activities. The classrooms are small which does provide a more one on one educational opportunity. Students and parents are often the ones making the first initiative for students to receive the help they need.

Recently, students in all three grades took the Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards to measure how well the students were mastering the standards set forth by the state of Arizona.

Sixth grade students scored 81% in reading with the state average being 81%, in writing 53% with state averages at 56%, and in math, students scored 42% with state averages at 59%. Seventh grade students in reading scored 63% with the state average being 82%, in writing 48% with state average at 53%, and in math scores were 33% with state averages at 61%. Eighth grade students scored 46% in reading with the state average being 71%, in science 46% with the state average at 63%, and in math 28% with the state average at 54%. Writing was tested in 2009 with students at Adalberto M. Guerrero School testing at 75% while the state averages for that year was 86%. These tests are given periodically to ensure that the schools are working to help students meet the state standards as well as measure the student’s knowledge. All students prior to graduating high school must pass this test in 10th grade.
