Academy of Building Industries Review

Vocational trades, is the name of the game with the Academy of Building Industries (AOBI) – a public charter high school that serves grades 9-12. Students go through their high school education that focuses on academics using the Pima and Maricopa cultures, while they acquire the technical skills essential for the construction industry.

Established in 2004, in Fort Mohave, Arizona, the Academy of Building Industries is in the Academy of Building Industries Inc. District. The Academy of Building Industries came into existence to not only help students earn a high school diploma but also gives them the opportunity to earn a certificate in any trade they choose to and excel in a career for a lifetime.

AOBI offers English, Math, Science and History for academics, along with several other elective courses that allow students to acquire the necessary technical skills, such as Building Fundamentals, Auto Fundamentals, Applied Sciences, Physical Education and Health. Students can advance through some projects quickly if they wish to and spend time on complex projects, taking responsibility for their own education.

The Academy of Building Industries High School concentrates on green technology to inspire and motivate students. Towards this end, one of the important extracurricular activities designed by the school is The Earth Saints Academy that places emphasis on outdoor classrooms that expose students to experiences they may normally not find it possible to participate in.

Students find careers and education through the US Forestry Service, the National Park Service or the NAU Forestry degree programs. Ecology and Art are also taught, while interdisciplinary activities and field investigations are part of the education. Camping trips and community related activities are aimed at developing a well-rounded individual who understands team work and social responsibility.
