Abraxis Charter School Review

R House opened Abraxis Charter School in 2005. R House has been helping troubled teens for more than 35 years and in 2005 opened the charter school to better serve troubled teens with their educational needs as well.

The school works with students that “at risk” such as those that have dropped out, been expelled, or suspended from other schools. Students have a second chance not only of staying sober and drug free but achieving their goals of a high school diploma. All students that are sober and drug free are encouraged to attend the school if they have been having issues with traditional schools. Traditional schools do not normally ensure that all students reach their goals especially those with behavioral or emotional problems; this is where Abraxis Charter School receives high marks.

The curriculum is rigorous and structured while teachers and staff are very supportive and caring. Along with core subjects, Abraxis Charter School offers vocational training and GED tutoring. Teachers work with students to ensure their success and devote as much time as needed to each student individually. As well as working on academics, the school works with students to help them understand the importance of responsibility as well as learning. Students are learning how to become life long learners with skills that will help them succeed in life.

The school focuses on academics and does not provide extra curricular activities. Even though the test scores are below state average, students have been improving yearly.

Parents are glad that their children have another chance to graduate from high school with caring teachers in a nurturing environment.
