The Natural Setting

  • Ecology is the study of the interaction between organisms and their environment. In this Lesson, we’ll explore the environmental factors that affect living things.

  • We’ll look at the physical factors that shape the environment: temperature, wind, the availability of water, and the makeup of rocks and soil. Then we’ll investigate the world’s climate regions and see how altitude affects local weather conditions.

  • Our planet is divided into nine major terrestrial biomes, from the driest deserts to the humid rainforests. We’ll look at all these habitats and learn about their characteristics. Finally, we’ll explore both freshwater and marine biomes and study their special features.
