The Endocrine System

  • From early in embryonic development, our body has to respond to its internal and external environments. The levels of the solutes in our blood must be regulated. We must continually respond to nerve signals triggered by events occurring around us.

  • One way our body responds is through chemical signals called hormones. Hormones are secreted by the endocrine glands.

  • In this Lesson, we'll look at some vertebrate endocrine glands. We'll introduce the glands and discuss the hormones secreted by each gland. We'll also see how hormones work together to maintain homeostasis.
