QuickNotes™

The Calvin-Benson Cycle

  • Through the process of photosynthesis, light energy is captured and converted into the chemical energy of ATP and NADPH. This chemical energy then drives the capture and conversion of carbon dioxide into sugar.

  • In this Lesson, we’ll learn about the chemical reactions that fix carbon and the energetics of these reactions. We’ll also examine alternative strategies used by plants to minimize photorespiration and improve the efficiency of carbon fixation.
