Muscle Structure and Contraction

  • The movements of the parts of our body, like our arms and legs, occur because of muscle contractions. The beating of the heart also requires muscle contraction. However, the muscle of the heart isn't the same type of muscle as the muscle in our arms.

  • In this Lesson, we'll look at three types of muscle and see how muscle contraction occurs. We'll also investigate how muscle contraction is regulated, at both the molecular level and the level of the whole muscle.
